When Burning River Baroque Duo Malina Rauschenfels (voice and cello) and Paula Maust (harpsichord) approached me about composing a song cycle on an environmental theme, I began searching for suitable poetry.
With their portrayals of human love against a dystopic, barren backdrop, the sonnets of Craig Santos Perez’s Love Poems in the Time of Climate Change immediately resonated with me.
Dr. Perez, an award-winning poet who uses his poetry to evoke awareness and action about environmental issues, kindly gave me permission to set these poems.
